“Ready for Mission”: SwPUC Delegates Join Global Leaders to Inspire Intentional Discipleship
To combat spiritual fatigue and reach diverse populations, intentional, community-driven action is essential. From June 9 to 14, 2026, delegates from the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference (SwPUC) traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, to participate in the Mission Refocus Conference. Themed "Towards an Integrated Vision," this event rallied advocates and leaders to reimagine how to connect with secular and unreached communities worldwide.
Beginning on June 10, the SwPUC delegation immersed themselves in a rigorous schedule that included keynote devotionals, global ministry strategy updates, and panel discussions focused on mission vision and health outreach. After exploring innovative global frameworks in the morning sessions, delegates participated in specialized afternoon breakout sessions. These sessions covered critical topics such as faith-based apologetics, cross-cultural hermeneutics, house church multiplication, and the role of health and healing ambassadors. This provided the representatives with fresh and adaptable strategies to implement in their home communities.
On the evening of Friday, June 12, the conference shifted to a deeply reflective Vespers program. An interactive segment posed a simple yet profound question: "What does the Sabbath mean to you in one word?" Both SwPUC delegates and fellow attendees shared sentiments like "happy," "rest," and "returning home to work with God." This unifying spirit was further emphasized by an inspiring video report from Ititi, Tanzania, illustrating the ripple effect of starting a local school. It highlighted how a child can teach a family, a family can transform a community, and a transformed community can impact the world.
Building on this reflection, GC Executive Secretary Pastor Rick McEdward delivered a stirring devotional message emphasizing that hospitality is essential. He acknowledged that people come from various backgrounds—some secular, some closed off, and others deeply faithful—and outlined crucial principles for intentional outreach. He stressed the need for patience, noting that making a disciple is often an 8-to-12-year journey. Ministry is a lifelong marathon, not a sprint. Acknowledging the fragility of faith, he urged leaders to be careful and deliberate in their discipleship to ensure that not a single disciple is lost. This outreach must be rooted in core values of care, forgiveness, and love, ultimately providing individuals with the genuine freedom to accept God's grace.
By blending these timely topics with a profound commitment to faith, the Mission Refocus Conference reaffirmed its dedication to global outreach. Although the challenges are significant, momentum is building through thousands of Bible Fellowships worldwide. As the SwPUC delegates prepare to bring these invaluable insights back to the Philippines, they are left with a resonant, empowering question: "What can you still do for the mission?" The clear answer echoing throughout the conference halls was: Be Ready for Mission.
