Digital Platforms for Mission: SwPUC Equips Communicators in Three-Day Media Training
Communication with a purpose, technology utilized for mission, and messages that bring hope took center stage as the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference (SwPUC) hosted a comprehensive Communication Training at the SwPUC Guest House Function Hall from August 18 to 20, 2026. This vital gathering was meticulously designed to equip communicators with the necessary skills to effectively utilize digital platforms for the advancement of the Gospel.
At the core of this initiative, the training brought together dedicated communication representatives from various missions, conferences, institutions, hospitals, and colleges across the union. The sessions commenced with a deep dive into the Biblical Foundation of Communication for Mission, led by Pastor Carlito Quidet. He emphasized the historical role of communication from the early Christian church to the modern Adventist movement, highlighting the communication leader's vital role as a bridge builder connecting the mission, the message, and the community.
Throughout the three-day event, participants engaged in dynamic lectures, practical activities, and actual media practice guided by expert speakers from the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD), Adventist World Radio (AWR), Hope Channel Philippines, and the SwPUC Communication Department. The comprehensive curriculum covered strategic digital outreach, visual language, audiovisual production, news podcasting, and AWR broadcasting systems. Dedicated sessions also focused on proper planning for church activities and the pivotal roles of Hope Channel and Adventist Media in supporting the upcoming global evangelistic push, One Voice 27.
Moreover, church leaders emphasized the importance of aligning these technical skills with a unified spiritual strategy. SSD Associate Communication Director Edward Rodriguez noted that the training aimed to set a clear direction for leaders to be united in one purpose over the next five years, empowering them to work strategically and use diverse technologies to reach more people for Christ in the digital space. Echoing this call for unity, SSD AWR Director Jet Canoy highlighted an amazing collaborative mission for One Voice 27, sharing plans to unite regional radio stations in a single, powerful broadcast to amplify their impact. The practical application of these strategies resonated deeply with the attendees; reflecting on the "Missional Facebook Posting" segment, one participant shared, "For me, posting can be an opportunity to reach more people, inspire others, and bring someone closer to Jesus".
Beyond the extensive technical workshops and strategic planning, the event culminated in a deeply moving Closing Ceremony and Commitment Service led by Pastor Quidet. From spoken words to digital platforms, and from traditional news to social media, the participants left with a clear mandate: communication is not merely about speaking, but about reaching hearts and leading people to Christ. As these newly equipped communicators return to their respective fields, they are inspired to ensure that every photo published, story told, and message shared serves as a dedicated instrument to spread the Gospel of hope.
