SwPUC Communications Leaders Training focuses on local church engagements through inspired communication

One of the most common concerns raised by Communication leaders, during their training from August 7-10, 2024, was the challenge of using social media and technology for evangelism in a rapidly changing world. The four-day training equipped these leaders with the skills and tools necessary to convey messages that resonate with communities that have not yet been reached by Adventism.

Attendees were encouraged to view social media as a valuable tool for evangelism and nurturing, rather than dismissing it simply because its potential for misuse. During the Divine Worship, Pr. Heshbon Buscato acknowledged the well-known dangers of media, a concern that is not new; however, he encouraged maintaining spiritual digital hygiene and using media for the Lord. He also appealed to the communication leaders to support those struggling with online addiction, referencing Ephesians 2:1-10 as a reminder of the need to draw closer to Jesus, both personally and as families.

SwPUC Commucations Director Pr. Roxie Joy Pido talked about the importance of communication leaders understanding their roles in this dynamic environment and the need to leverage social media platforms to expand ministry efforts both within and beyond the church.
"Chasing God’s vast opportunities, we have learned to make the most of these platforms to reach more souls," he said.

The training featured a lineup of speakers, providing attendees with opportunities to ask questions during the Q&A session. Topics covered included public speaking, church bulletins, social media, radio, and writing. Among the speakers were Dr. Remwil Tornalejo, President of Mountain View College; Pr. Hesbon Buscato, Communications Director and Media Coordinator for the Southern Asia-Pacific Division; Pr. Ian Felicitas, SSD Field Secretary; Pr. Elexiz Mercado, Associate Manager of Adventist World Radio Center for Digital Evangelism; Dr. Alevir Pido, SwPUC Education Director; Johnster Calibod, SwPUC Hope Channel Manager; and Rufmer Sam Labag, ZPM Hope Channel Manager.

Participant Juveline Loar shared her experience, describing the training as "wonderful and excellent." She appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with college friends and learn valuable skills in public speaking and digital evangelism. She was particularly moved by Pr. Elexiz Mercado's lecture on caring for lost souls and bringing them to Christ. Reflecting on her own experiences, she was reminded to persist in her efforts to reach out to those who may have drifted away from the faith.

Loar, currently the principal of Mapun Adventist Academy on Mapun Island, the farthest island in the Zamboanga Peninsula, was the participant who traveled the greatest distance.
"I am greatly blessed by this event," she said, expressing gratitude for the opportunity.
