SwPUC Convenes the 2026 Education Advisory and Pioneers the First Higher Education Research Collaboration, Rooted in Mission and Driven by Data.
To navigate the evolving landscape of modern learning while remaining deeply anchored in faith, education requires a bold and united vision. From June 21 to 24, 2026, the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference (SwPUC) brought this vision to life by hosting a transformative Joint Advisory Meeting for Basic Education. Guided by the theme, "Rooted in scripture, driven by mission. The journey to excellence in Adventist education," the event gathered a dedicated assembly of education directors, superintendents, and principals from as far as Surigao City to Mapun, Tawi-Tawi. Together, these passionate leaders embarked on a critical shared mission: breathing life into the educational blueprint for the coming years.
This gathering was far more than a routine administrative check-in; it was a deeply collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves strategic planning session. Dr. Alevir Pido, the SwPUC Education Director, captured the heart of the event, explaining that the goal was not just to set a new direction but to reaffirm the policies and best practices that have been successfully initiated since 2022. The leaders worked tirelessly at the drawing board to design a realistic and progressive road map, formulating a comprehensive strategic plan that will guide the educative ministry through the 2026 to 2030 quinquennium.
A major catalyst for this forward momentum was a groundbreaking push toward data-driven excellence, made possible by the South Philippine Adventist College (SPAC). SPAC helped realize the long-held dream of implementing standardized achievement tests for basic education across the region. When the results were presented, they were raw, hard to chew, and unapologetically reflective of reality. Yet, instead of being defensive, the educators fully embraced the truth of the data. The numbers tore down old defenses and convinced the leaders to take immediate action, leaving them genuinely excited to grow, improve, and offer even more to their learners.
Building on this momentum of honesty and growth, the advisory also fostered robust collaboration at the collegiate level. The Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs from the region's three Adventist Higher Education Institutions—Adventist Medical Center College (AMCC), Mountain View College (MVC), and SPAC—convened to plan joint research initiatives. This united effort aims to nurture a strong research culture that can better support the Church by enabling evidence-based decision-making. At the same time, the event strengthened vital regional partnerships with the Philippine Publishing House, Hope Channel South Philippines, and the SwPUC Communication Department, proving that the entire educational ecosystem is beautifully interconnected.
Despite the heavy responsibilities and the seemingly endless parade of online meetings waiting for them back home, the spirit among the delegates was overwhelmingly hopeful. The days were long, but they proved that incredible outcomes happen when leaders sit, talk, laugh, sing, and pray together in person. Sharing joys and challenges face-to-face reminded every educator that they are never alone in this vital yet challenging ministry. As they packed up to return to their schools, their faith in God and the system remained unshaken. They proved that with just enough "sugar and spice" and a shared commitment to the mission, these education leaders are truly unstoppable. As the delegates beautifully expressed throughout the week, "Ang sarap lang MANGARAP"—it feels so good to dream, knowing that we are all in this together.
