SwPUC Education Department hosts training to improve school clinics, libraries, and guidance services in Adventist elementary and academies

The Student Services Training of the SwPUC Education Department sought to strengthen the capabilities of clinics, libraries, and guidance services across Adventist elementary schools and academies within Southwestern Mindanao. It also offered principals with strategic planning tools to ensure ongoing improvements in service delivery.

The three-day event gathered 200 teachers, including principals, administrators, and service providers from different Adventist institutions. The event's main resource speakers were Dr. Jimmy Adil who opened the event with a discussion on the unique approach of Adventist Education, which integrates spiritual growth with academic excellence. Pr. Roxie Pido discussed communicating Christ on campus, while Mr. Roy Perez reminded the attendees to promote the holistic and Christ-centered nature of the Adventist education. Dr. Alevir Pido discussed Educational Strategy, Mr. Romy Lamputi spoke on Administrative Leadership, and Mrs. Myrlie Adil on Student Support.

The event also featured guest speakers from renowned Adventist institutions, including Mountain View College, Adventist Medical Center College, and Mindanao Mission Academy. These were Dr. Ester Mojica, Ms. Emy Baul, Glaiza Joy Juncia, Pr. Joward Mylven Blaza, and Roze Espero. Representing Adventist Medical Center College were Lorie Paclipan and Dr. Leilah Demol, while Arjhel M. Sayson represented Mindanao Mission Academy.

Uziel Cañada, an attendee and the Education Superintendent for the North-Central Mindanao Conference, talked about the impact of Christ-centered communication.

"What struck me most was the importance of communicating Christ in our institution. It’s not just about acquiring knowledge, but preparing students to meet Jesus. That is our mission," she said.

Cherry Mae Ann L. Dela Peña, another attendee and also the Clinic In-Charge at an Elementary Department from Northeastern Mindanao, gave insights on improving school clinic operations:

"As a clinic head, I'm now more equipped and inspired to give my best for the students, especially regarding their health. Our focus is holistic—not just on mental health, but also on the physical and spiritual well-being of every student."

The training was held on August 27-29, 2024, with devotional programs taking place at the SwPUC Compound in Cagayan de Oro and breakout sessions at Xavier University. The arrangements were coordinated by Dr. Pamela Pajente, the university's Vice President for Basic Education; and Dr. Alevir Pido, SwPUC Education Director.
