SwPUC Launches First-Ever Qualitative Research Seminar-Workshop Across Its Territory

The Southwestern Philippine Union Conference (SwPUC) held its first-ever Qualitative Research Seminar-Workshop titled "From Question to Conclusion: A Journey of Research with God," from May 14 to 16, 2025, at Mindanao Mission Academy (MMA) in Misamis Oriental.

A total of 110 participants attended the three-day event, comprising school principals, superintendents, research coordinators, and research teachers from 34 schools across the SwPUC territory, as well as Palawan Adventist Academy.

This event was a joint initiative by SwPUC and MMA, aiming to strengthen research capabilities in Adventist educational institutions. Expert speakers from South Philippine Adventist College (SPAC) were invited to lead the workshop: Dr. Ranzolin Bayeta (Phenomenology), Mrs. Karel Mei Banay (Narrative Inquiry), Ms. Rhody LaynnMorada (Appreciative Inquiry), and Mr. Richard Banay (Case Study).

The seminar opened with registration and welcome remarks from Dr. Alevir Pido, SwPUC Education Director. During the plenary sessions, speakers emphasized the critical role of education research. Ms. Morada encouraged participants by saying, “You are on the right track if you feel challenged by what you're doing. If not, maybe it's not the right place for you.”

Participants were divided into thematic groups for breakout sessions and engaged in hands-on research activities, including interviews and data analysis. The final day featured research paper defenses, where attendees shared insights and received feedback, fostering collaboration and the exchange of innovative strategies to advance qualitative research in education.

Many teachers expressed a renewed appreciation for the research process, describing the experience as inspiring and fulfilling. They shared their excitement about bringing what they have learned back to their respective schools and encouraging a culture of inquiry among their peers and students. Several participants also expressed eagerness further to develop their papers for presentation on international research platforms.

During the culmination program, Mr. Marlon Tabaosares, MMA's research coordinator, distributed awards for Best Paper, Best Presenter, and Certificates of Attendance.

The seminar-workshop marked a significant step in cultivating a research-driven culture among Adventist schools in the region, inspiring educators to pursue excellence grounded in faith and scholarly rigor.
