"The Hands and Feet of Jesus": SwPUC Officially Launches HeartReach Ministry
Driven by a profound commitment to bring hope and transformation to vulnerable households and Indigenous groups, the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference (SwPUC) has officially launched the HeartReach Ministry. This comprehensive outreach was proudly spearheaded by the Women’s Ministries and Family Ministries departments of SwPUC, under the dedicated leadership of its director, Mrs. Marife Patalinghug. Working in a unified collaboration with Adventist Community Services and Adventist Possibility Ministries, the initiative was carefully designed to address the spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs of the community in a truly holistic way.
The milestone ceremony was marked by a collective spirit of dedication, featuring prayers, special music from Hope Channel, and a powerful Message of Hope from Pastor Jerry C. Patalinghug to prepare the hearts of the attendees. During the program, Mrs. Marife Patalinghug shared the deeply inspiring background of the ministry, drawing its purpose directly from the life of Christ. She explained that when Jesus was on Earth, He truly mingled with men, showed compassion, and gave His unwavering support and care. She emphasized that the church must do the exact same thing, serving as a living reflection of Jesus' earthly ministry. Following a solemn Prayer of Commitment and the formal launch, this beautiful vision was put into immediate, practical action through a massive distribution of services. Families joyfully received comprehensive relief packages tailored to ease their daily burdens, which included fresh produce like sayote, potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, sweet potatoes, Baguio beans, eggplants, sliced squash, and Chinese pechay. Pantries were further stocked with essential staples including rice, sardines, bihon, beef and chicken noodles, oil, sugar, salt, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and onions.
The ministry also ensured that personal, educational, and nutritional needs were met, blessing attendees with bananas, bread, cookies, and soya milk provided in partnership with AMCI, alongside notebooks, paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, and hairclips for the children. A major cornerstone of the day's physical relief was a dedicated health screening facilitated by volunteer doctors and nurses from the Adventist Medical Center Iligan (AMCI). In a wonderful testament to God's blessing, these medical professionals generously volunteered their specialized expertise to evaluate and care for the visitors before proceeding to their own daily appointments.
The impact of these holistic services was immediately and deeply felt by the community. Beneficiaries eagerly shared their heartfelt gratitude with the news team, showing off the rice, groceries, clothing, and towels they had received. Beyond the tangible relief, the emotional and spiritual support resonated profoundly. Beneficiaries joyfully expressed that they were not just given "physical food" to sustain their bodies, but also received genuine "spiritual enrichment" that nourished their souls. One local woman shared her immense happiness, noting that the assistance greatly alleviated their daily hardships, and specifically expressed her profound appreciation for the personal counseling and prayer she received for safe travels and work. Another elderly beneficiary simply, yet powerfully, thanked God and the volunteers who arrived to bring them such vital blessings. By stepping out to be the hands and feet of Jesus, the volunteers ensured that every visitor experienced the true, transformative compassion of Christ.
