Mindanao-Wide Multiple Intelligence Camp Opens, Offering a Wealth of Insightful Activities

The Mindanao-Wide Multiple Intelligence Camp that everyone has been waiting for has finally started at Mountain View College. The camp is hosting 3,111 enthusiastic students mostly from grades five and six across ninety (90) SDA elementary schools in Mindanao. The camp is set against the beautiful backdrop of Mountain View College and runs from February 11 to 17 for a whole week. The event promises a unique combination of educational enrichment and spiritual nourishment.

Upon registration, each camper received a Bible as a gift for their morning and evening devotional sessions. A total of 3,111 Bibles were distributed, reflecting a collaborative effort driven by faith and fundraising, spearheaded by Dr. Alevir Pido. Generous contributions poured in from institutions like SSD, SwPUC, SEPUM, and generous individuals, with a notable donation from the workers of Adventist Medical Center in Valencia City for the purchase of the Bibles, materials, and overall operation. Additionally, there are forty (40) brand-new donated printers and two (2) laptops to be raffled off during the closing ceremony.

Pastor Dan Namanya, a professor at MVC College of Theology, delivered inspiring morning and evening devotionals at the Bible camp.

The opening night unfolded with a warm welcome from Dr. Chona Ramos, MVC's VP for Academics, setting the stage for the enriching experiences that followed. The event transformed into a festive and majestic celebration, with campers and guests entertained by a dazzling lights presentation by mission and conference school representatives.

Dr. Alevir Pido, the Education Director of the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference (SwPUC), provided insights on the inception of the Mindanao-Wide Multiple Intelligence Camp during the opening night. He explained that the planning process started in 2022 with education directors from the former South Philippine Union Conference and finally came to fruition in late 2023 with the collaboration of two unions, SwPUC and SEPUM.

Sir Romy Lamputi, SwPUC's Associate Education Director, also welcomed teachers and principals to the event and assured them that all activities were carefully planned to provide enjoyment and enrichment for each participant/camper. Dr. Elona Leodecario Jr., MVC Dean of the College of Education, delivered a powerful message. He emphasized the importance of using our talents for God's glory.

Southeastern Philippine Union Mission (SEPUM) Education Director, Dr. Perlyn Panes, warmly welcomed all delegates from SEPUM while Pastor Porferio Lagunday, President of Central Mindanao Mission, also extended a hearty welcome to all delegates to Central Mindanao Mission territory.

To provide a varied learning experience, students have the option to choose from a range of camps based on their interests. These camps cover a wide range of topics, including music, Bible study, sports, science, math, journalism, digital and traditional arts, stage arts, speech arts, research, aqua splash, and health science. In total, there were 13 different track camps available for delegates to select from. However, the majority of the facilitators were teachers and students from Mountain View College/Academy, South Philippine Adventist College, and Adventist Medical Center College.

Stringent control over the number of delegates, totaling 4,836, ensured the effective implementation of the event's objectives. Facilitating the diverse camps were 298 dedicated instructors, supported by 1,427 teachers, principals, and parents. Each delegate was covered by insurance, underscoring a commitment to their well-being.

During the camp, Pastor Porferio Lagunday, Central Mindanao Mission President, oversaw a mess hall that served free daily meals for all organizers and facilitators. The setting was well-organized and ensured a safe and enjoyable environment for all students. Additionally, to ensure the safety of everyone, the Adventist Rescue Operators Network (ARON) team was present as the official standby rescue team throughout the camp.

Under the theme "I Learn, I Grow, I Shine - I am God’s Design," the Mindanao-Wide Multiple Intelligence Camp unfolds as a holistic experience, seamlessly integrating education, spirituality, and community against the breathtaking backdrop of Mountain View College.
