SSD-Wide Pathfinder Camporee Culminates in Thousands Inspired to 'Rebuild the Altar’

Valencia City - Mountain View College and Southwestern Philippine Union Conference recently hosted a remarkable event, the SSD-Wide Pathfinder Camporee, a collaboration of the Youth Ministries Department and the Education Department, which brought together over 10,000 campers from various countries within the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD). With the theme “Rebuild the Altar,” this gathering aimed to inspire engagement and enlightenment among participants. The camporee was packed with a variety of activities, including twelve honor classes that allowed pathfinders to earn distinctive patches for their achievements. While the focus was on fun-filled activities that promoted growth and learning, it also strongly emphasized spiritual development through an assortment of interactive experiences. Throughout the camporee, regular morning worship sessions took place at both the church and the grandstand, where audiences were spiritually uplifted by inspiring messages from different Pathfinder speakers, primarily composed of elementary students. Additionally, a plenary session featured experienced speakers from academia and church leadership, mainly SSD officers and directors, who shared valuable insights on topics relevant to the youth. A striking replica of the Old Testament sanctuary was set up beside the Florence Kern Auditorium, providing pathfinders and attendees with a realistic worship experience, rich in symbolism and encounters with God. The event also fostered camaraderie through friendship games and engaging stage dramas, culminating in nightly performances that vividly recount the story of Elijah, captivating audiences each evening. “I am extremely impressed by their performances. The best so far,” remarked MG Whitehead, highlighting the talent and dedication of the participating pathfinders.

One of the spiritual highlights of the camporee transpired during the vespers and commitment service conducted on the final evening. Elder/MG Roger Caderma, President of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD), addressed the assembly, encouraging participants to reflect on the biblical passage 1 Kings 18:30. MG Caderma underscored the significance of rebuilding a broken altar and presented five pivotal points: 1. Approach Jesus as one is. 2. Acknowledge Jesus as Lord. 3. Seek knowledge of Jesus through scripture and prayer. 4. Embrace the transformative power of baptism. 5. Exhibit sacrificial love towards one’s family.

Utilizing the acronym REACT, MG Caderma urged attendees to incorporate the principles exemplified by Elijah into their lives: Reflect their Adventist values, Explore their passions, Assess their personal journeys, Construct their envisioned futures, and Take decisive action. As the sermon concluded, an altar call was extended, leading many young campers to step forward in commitment, with a considerable number opting for baptism.Following the commitment service, MVC Academy presented a stage drama entitled "The Mantle," which effectively illustrated the life of the prophet Elijah.

Despite intermittent rain throughout the week, the collective enthusiasm remained high as the Sabbath approached, with clear skies on Friday and Saturday contributing to a renewed sense of excitement. The grandstand reached full capacity for the early worship service, led by Elder/MG Arnel Gabin, Vice President of NDR/IEL within the SSD, who encouraged pathfinders to serve as witnesses both within their churches and at home.

Furthermore, the observance of the Sabbath elevated the spiritual atmosphere for the campers to breathtaking heights. As the sun dipped below the horizon, they were fully immersed in the final series of powerful lectures and presentations that resonated deep within their souls. Despite the church being filled beyond its capacity—every nook and cranny occupied, both inside and outside the building—the vibrant energy was palpable. Dressed in their Pathfinder uniforms, the campers radiated a sense of purpose and unity. Their unwavering focus on the messages being shared was a testament to their devotion. And when they lifted their voices together in the camporee's theme song, “Rebuild the Altar,” composed by the beloved Pr. Jaffet Legario, it was nothing short of angelic. The haunting melodies soared through the air, wrapping around the crowd and transcending the moment, creating an atmosphere charged with divine presence and fellowship.

Meantime, a poignant moment transpired during the impactful sermon delivered by Pastor/MG Paco Mokgwane, the General Conference Associate Youth Director. His sermon, titled “Rebuilding Faith after After,” resonated with the themes of renewal presented in 1 Kings 18:30. MG Mokgwane emphasized to the campers that “Rebuilding the altar is rebuilding your relationship and faith in God.” He articulated that this process requires incremental efforts, such as meditation, Bible reading, and scripture memorization. He urged the youth to embrace fearlessness and to advance confidently, assuring them that “The fire will come, and people will know that there is a living God.”The event culminated with the baptism of 155 pathfinders at the Mountain View College pool, including non-Adventist students, showcasing the inclusive spirit of the camporee and the life-changing power of faith.

Roman Blake Alibangbang, a sixth-grade student at Golden Boulevard Adventist Elementary School, recently made the decision to accept Jesus through baptism, despite coming from a different Christian denomination. His mother expressed her support, saying, “I wouldn’t mind one if my son chooses to be baptized as an Adventist, as long as it helps him grow into a God-fearing individual throughout his life. I’m truly grateful for the positive impact that the Adventist school has had on his spiritual journey.” Roman is enthusiastic about the prospect of enrolling in MVC Academy for his education.

Bible Quiz Bowl

Following the Sabbath morning program, an engaging Bible Quiz Bowl was conducted to assess the knowledge of participants, with questions focused on the biblical narrative of Elijah. Representatives from each Union within the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) participated in an atmosphere of enthusiasm. The Southwestern Philippine Union Conference distinguished itself as the champion, represented by Pathfinders Ghleana Gallego, a sixth-grade student from Del Mar Adventist Elementary School in Cagayan de Oro City,  and Pergelyn Peduche, a 10th-grade student from Western Mindanao Adventist Academy in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.In recognition of their exceptional performance, both students have been awarded an all-expenses-paid trip and accommodation to the upcoming SSD-Wide Pathfinder Camporee in Thailand scheduled for 2027.

Master Guide Investiture

Meanwhile, over 100 candidates were invested as Master Guides, with many assuming roles as educators and pastors within their respective communities. MG Pako Mokgwane challenged the newly inducted Master Guides to exemplify leadership and integrity as they mentor the next generation.

As the week-long event concluded, Pathfinders gathered for the closing ceremony in the open field of Mountain View College, exemplifying a profound sense of pride and purpose. MG Ron Genebago, SSD Youth Director and Camporee Director, along with the entire team, expressed gratitude to the Pathfinders, sponsors, parents, and administrators of Mountain View College for the successful execution of the camporee. He urged all Pathfinders to emulate Elijah's example and serve as a guiding light to others. Upon the conclusion of his final remarks, a stunning display of fireworks illuminated the sky in vibrant colors, symbolizing the victory of the God of Elijah and the Pathfinders in the present generation.

Pr/MG Deonel Perren, the Deputy Camporee Director, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for the valuable experiences he gained from this camporee. He particularly highlighted the dedication of the organizing team, led by Pr./MG Ron Genebago, whose commitment and spirituality shone throughout the event. “I felt truly blessed to collaborate with leaders who are not only wise and experienced but also possess the right attitude, positivity, and a strong spiritual foundation.”

The SSD-wide Camporee not only fostered a sense of community among the youth but also inspired a renewed dedication to their faith and mission, leaving a lasting impact on all participants.
