SwPUC concludes 2024 year-end executive committee meeting

The Southwestern Philippine Union Conference concluded its year-end executive committee meeting, held from November 17 to 20, 2024, at the SwPUC Garden Church in Cagayan de Oro City. A significant portion of the discussions focused on finalizing the calendar for Thirteenth Sabbath Offerings, regular offerings, and special events spanning 2025 to 2031.

Delegates also reviewed amendments to Southern Asia-Pacific Division working policies, including updates on vacation with pay, family allowances, health assistance, and termination settlements. The committee explored global initiatives, particularly the Global Total Member Involvement Plan for 2025-2030 and assessed the composition of the SwPUC to ensure alignment with the region's evolving needs. Recommendations from the union were also deliberated, including plans for church elder training, evangelistic campaigns, and systematic giving in local churches.

Key resolutions

Resolutions from the meeting include the establishment of a Children's Registry Book to track the spiritual development of children aged 0-14 to nurture future Adventist disciples. The Ministerial Association Secretary will now be a permanent member of the Executive Committee at union and mission levels, with responsibilities for pastoral evaluation and support. A structured process has been created for evaluating pastors’ spiritual and ministry growth.

The union also aims to develop Clinical Pastoral Education Centers to ensure a steady flow of trained Adventist chaplains. Additionally, there are efforts to educate pastors and church members about the Spirit of Prophecy, addressing the prevalence of false teachings and interpretations, particularly online. Hope Channel is rebranded to target non Adventists. Adventist-content programs should be under the Adventist Media of the Communications Department.

Committee and mission and conference reports

Several committees, including the Remuneration, Compensation, Audit, Budget, Property Review Committees presented their reports, which were reviewed and acted upon by the delegates. Additionally, missions, conferences, and institutions presented a 5-minute video report.

Leadership changes in NEMM

Pr. Rafael A. De Domingo took over responsibilities from Pr. Lonie D. Cena as SS/PM Director, ASI, and ACS Coordinator of the Northeastern Mindanao Mission. Pr. Cena is now the Adventist Possibility Ministries Director, in addition to his roles as Health Director and Field Secretary/NDR/IEL.

Pr. Stephen Salinti, Vice President of the Southern Asia Pacific Division, spoke about the chosen people having wilderness experience as part of their leadership preparation. During such times, "motives are purified, backbones are solidified, and callings are clarified."

Pr. Jacinto Pr. Adap, SSD Treasurer, reminded the pastors of their identity. "The reason we keep His commandments is because we love Him. We are not defined by this world, but by God's love," he added.

Pr. Segundino Asoy, SSD Sabbath School Director discussed becoming faithful in keeping the commandments of God and in maintaining the faith of Jesus while Pr. Rey Cabanero, SSD Publishing Ministries Director, talked about seeking revival from the Holy Spirit.

During the Commitment Service, Pr. Mamerto Guingguing II, SSD Associate Secretary, spoke about faithfulness, referencing 2 Timothy 2:13: "If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself." He appealed for faithfulness in worship, daily living, and mission, citing examples of Adventists who had remained steadfast during the turbulent years following the Vietnam War.

The meeting ended with pastors renewing their commitment to remain faithful and true of their calling as stewards of Christ.
