SwPUC Helps 250 Families Affected by Typhoon Basyang
The Southwestern Philippine Union Conference (SwPUC) provided relief assistance to 250 families hit hard by Typhoon Basyang, which struck Iligan City on February 5–6, 2026. The relief effort took place on March 3, 2026.
Each family received grocery items, including 10 kilograms of jasmine rice and a dozen eggs. This support is important for families still recovering from the typhoon's damage.
The Movement of Accredited Christian Federation Adventists (MACFA), led by Ma’am Corazon Biong, helped identify and assess the families in need of the most assistance.
This community outreach effort was organized by SwPUC through the Adventist Community Services, led by Pastor Teddy Baang and Mrs. Marife Patalinghug, Family and Women’s Ministries Director.
The day before the distribution, workers from SwPUC gathered to prepare and pack the grocery items. The relief goods were then distributed at the Adventist Medical Center College's covered court, with support from the college administrators and the SwPUC staff and directors who were present at the event.
Before distributing the goods, a brief devotional service was held, during which all SwPUC workers came together to highlight compassion, service, and unity with the affected families.
SwPUC thanked three missions—Northeastern Mindanao Mission (NeMM), Central Mindanao Mission (CMM), and Zamboanga Peninsula Mission (ZPM), as well as two conferences, North Central Mindanao Conference (NCMC) and Western Mindanao Conference (WMC), for their contributions to purchasing the groceries. They also appreciated the help from the Central Philippine Union Conference (CPUC) in Cebu.
The relief effort encouraged many families. One recipient, in tears, said, “This is the first time we have received this much help since the typhoon hit us. This is truly a great blessing from God through SwPUC.”
Through this initiative, SwPUC showed its commitment to providing practical help and spiritual encouragement to communities in need, especially during crises.
