South Philippine Union Conference (SwPUC), January 19, 2025– The South Philippine Union Conference recently held its annual 10 Days of Prayer from January 13–18, 2025, attracting workers and staff for a profound and life-altering experience centered on prayer, fasting, and worship. This year’s theme, “But When You Pray,” guided participants through a heartfelt journey deepening their faith and dependence on God. Highlighting the weekend was a passionate message delivered by SwPUC President Pastor Jerry Patalinghug on Sabbath, focusing on Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness. He emphasized the call for believers to maintain steadfast faith in the face of temptations from the world. “No worldly gain is worth compromising our faith,” Pastor Patalinghug declared with conviction, as he reflected on the nature of temptation faced by Jesus, where wealth, power, and glory were offered in exchange for worship. Drawing from Hebrews 4:16, Pastor Patalinghug reassured congregants of God’s understanding of their struggles, stating, “Satan is relentless, but so is God’s grace. When we rely on His Word, we can stand firm against any temptation.
The event also featured heartfelt testimonies from SwPUC pastors and staff, bringing to life the faithfulness of God. Vicky Pamunag shared a poignant account of financial hardships faced by her and her husband, Pastor Pamunag, early in their ministry, affirming, “God listens when we pray.” Her emotional recounting of miraculous answers to prayer served as a reminder of God’s attentive presence. Musical offerings from the SwPUC Hope Channel team enhanced the worship experience, creating a spirit of reverence and connection with God.
During the 10-day event, pastors from the union office delivered messages that were both inspirational and thought-provoking. Pastor Jerramil Pamunag encouraged the congregation to "Abide in Me," emphasizing the importance of remaining rooted in prayer and maintaining a steadfast focus on the Lord. Pastor Abundionisio Cayme addressed the significance of Jesus’ teachings on prayer, highlighting that our relationship with God is founded on trust and intimacy. Pastor Michael Capapas underscored the power of specific and intentional prayers, while Pastor Teddy Ba-ang offered reflections on the virtues of waiting on God and trusting in His timing.
Pastor Joy Colegado guided the congregation to contemplate the sacredness of honoring God's name, whereas Pastor Roxie Joy Pido illustrated the essence of the Kingdom of God as being "already here, but not yet," evoking a sense of hope and expectation. Pastor Jimmy Adil Jr. spoke on the sovereignty and ultimate authority of God, reminding attendees of the greatness of the One we serve. Meanwhile, Pastor Max Dante Obbus emphasized the importance of daily sustenance as a reflection of God's continuous provision. The Communion Service, led by Pastor Elvin Salarda, provided a poignant moment for forgiveness and renewal, uniting the congregation in humility and restoration through God's grace.
The collective prayers were filled with aspirations for unity and teamwork, particularly in preparation for upcoming evangelistic crusades in 2025. Many participated in food fasting and Communion, reinforcing their devotion to God’s mission and commitment to stand firm in their faith despite forthcoming challenges. The 10 Days of Prayer proved to be a significant experience that revitalized the hearts of SwPUC workers, igniting their passion for evangelism, service, and unwavering faith in God.
